Obituary of Barbara Barton

Barbara M. Barton Allegany, NY Barbara M. Barton of 105 N. 2nd St. passed away Wednesday (September 21, 2011) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born December 7, 1941 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Robert Charles Murphy and Vermell Carter Murphy Bryant. Her father died during combat in WWII and she was raised by her mother and her stepfather Shirley Bryant. On December 21, 1961 in Olean she married David Barton who survives. Mrs. Barton was a 1959 graduate of Olean High School and first worked for the former Hi-Q Co. in Olean. She was a homemaker and raised her family for many years and later began employment with Acme Electric Co. from 1969 until her retirement in 2004. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, babysitting and visiting the casinos. Surviving besides her husband are three sons David (Karen) Barton, Jr. of Allegany, Robert (Karen) Barton of Allegany and Rick (Tanya) Barton of Berryville, VA; five grandchildren Cody Barton, Nicole Barton, Julie Barton, Bradley Barton and Drake Barton; one brother Thomas (Barbara) Bryant of Cuba; one sister Linda (Harold) Spencer, Jr. of Olean and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (September 24, 2011) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department.
