Joseph R. Schank, Jr.
Cuba, NY-- Joseph R. Schank Jr., formerly of Aberdeen Idaho, passed away Wednesday August 10, 2011 at the Buffalo Veteran's Hospital.
Born March 16, 1946 in Scranton PA, he was the son of Joseph R. and Lillian Jensen Schank, Sr. In 1982 he married Aren Erdoiza, who survives.
Mr. Schank was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps., serving from 1964- 1966. He later was self employed for several locations around the country, including Ener-Safe in Boise, ID.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a caring, giving person. While in Idaho he implemented a much-needed food and clothing ministry and along with his wife he volunteered in his church for several years. He loved singing and dancing. As a younger man he and his family performed a cantata at the Boise Festival of Trees and he also won several ballroom dancing competitions. He also took part in the singing of Handel's "Messiah" each Easter and Christmas season for several years. In his earlier years he became a small air craft pilot. He was always available to play Santa Claus to brighten the lives of children. More recently he enjoyed computers and music.
Surviving besides his wife are a son Joe Schank of Georgia; 2 daughters Aria Schank and Angela Schank, both of Cuba; one step-son Michael Rowen; one step- daughter Samantha Whright; four brothers Thomas Schank of Caldwell, ID; John (Linda) Schank of Las Vegas, NV; Timothy (Pam) Schank of Caldwell ID and James "Kimo" Schank of Oak Harbor Washington; one sister Georgette (Troy) Hunt of Loveland CO and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Pete Schank.
Private burial services will be held at the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
