William J. Hastings Allegany, NY William J. Hastings of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. died Friday (July 8, 2011) in Cuba Memorial Hospital. Born November 4, 1930 in Olean, NY he was the son of Glenn and Ruth Trail Hastings, Sr. On August 25, 1951 at the former First Methodist Church in Olean he married Lettie Brown who predeceased him November 30, 2004. Mr. Hastings was a 1948 graduate of Allegany High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1948 to 1951, including time served during the Korean War. He was first employed by IBM in the Olean and Jamestown areas and he later began a career in real estate. He retired to Florida in the 1970's and returned to Allegany in 1999. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and he especially loved playing euchre with his friends at The Burton Hotel. Surviving are three children Dan Hastings, Lynn (Tom) Brown and Lori (Dwayne) Dziennik, all of Allegany; six grandchildren Jeremy Brown, Kara Riggs, Melissa Brown, Lindsey Dziennik, Tyler Dziennik and Austin Dziennik; one great granddaughter Abigail Riggs; one brother James Hastings of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his parents, a stepfather Russell Berwald and a brother Glenn Hastings, Jr. There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Monday (July 11, 2011) at 3:00pm at the Christ United Methodist Church in Olean. Rev. Kristen Allen, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to The ReHabilitation Foundation 1439 Buffalo St. Olean, NY 14760.
