Olean, NY Jimmie C. Moore of 301 W. Henley St. died Sunday (June 26, 2011) in Highlands Care Center in Laporte, PA after a longtime battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born April 1, 1933 in Olean, NY he was the son of Charles Moore and Inez Harris.
Mr. Moore entered the US Air Force in 1952 and served in the Korean War until his discharge in 1956. He was employed in the Philadelphia area for a number of years prior to moving back to Olean. He then worked for several years for McGraw Edison Co., now Cooper Power Systems in Olean prior to his retirement in the mid 1990's.
As a younger man in the Philadelphia area he was a semi-professional basketball player and also served as a deacon for his former church there. In Olean he served as a former member of the Board of Advisors for Legal Aid in Olean. He was always interested in athletics and was extremely involved in coaching the area girl's youth softball league and later the women's league. He also umpired in men's softball leagues and had a particular passion for the church league. In recent years his friends will remember him also as a karaoke singer, especially of Frank Sinatra tunes and that he was very fond of jazz music.
Surviving are one son Kym (Judy) Moore of Arizona; one daughter Jackie Moore of Savannah, GA; two grandchildren; his former wife Dolores Mansfield whom he married in 1981 and her children Denise (Ron) Jutze of Woodstock, GA, Mark (Andrea) Mansfield of Maplewood, NJ and Bryan (Gena) Mansfield of Olean. Since the time he was an infant he was raised as a son by Henry and Alice Hill. He also considered their son Manzo (Darney) Hill as a brother and Manzo's two children Manzo Hill, Jr. and Mendell Hill as nephews.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Olean Girl's Softball League or to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY 2805 Wehrle Dr. Suite 6 Williamsville, NY 14221-7380.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
