John L. Stevenson
"Beloved husband, father and grandfather"
Allegany, NY John L. Stevenson of 71 N. 3rd St. died Thursday (March 17, 2011) in Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 2, 1944 in Olean he was the son of Scott and Ada Jean Conrad Stevenson. On June 25, 1970 he married Phyllis Voorhis who survives.
Mr. Stevenson was a 1962 graduate of Allegany High School and later served in the US Army Reserves. He had been employed as a construction worker for many years as a member of the United Painters and Allied Trades Union. Along with his wife he helped with their family daycare business "Freckles and Grins" where he was affectionately thought of as a "Grandpa" to the children.
He attended the Allegany Baptist Church and was a member of the Olean Elk's Lodge #491. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman where he loved hunting and fishing, including deep sea fishing. He especially loved life at home where he was surrounded by his family and friends.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters Kari (Karl) Kiffer of Hornell, Kelly (Brian) Kincaid of Taneytown, MD and Kristie (Richard) Gomez of Hagerstown, MD; seven loving grandchildren Riley and Jared Kiffer, Connor, Madison and Chloe Kincaid and Sofia and Garrison Gomez; one brother Russell (Patsy) Stevenson of Limestone; one sister Mary Ann Taylor of Allegany and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and one sister Connie Stevenson.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean tonight from 7-9 and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (March 21, 2011) at 11:00am in the Allegany Baptist Church. Rev. Frank Hayman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
