Olean - Gerald A. Manzo of 1900 Godfrey Hollow Road, Olean, passed away Saturday (February 26, 2011) at the Absolut of Allegany.
Born January 24, 1925 in Olean, he was the son of Michael and Carol Lee Manzo. On July 31, 1946, he married Catherine Ciampa who survives.
Mr. Manzo was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II as a Medical Technician in surgery in England. He was in combat in 1944-1945 in Germany, France, Belgium and Holland and received numerous awards and medals including the Presidential Unit Citation, Army of Occupational Medal with the Germany Clasp and the European- African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars.
Mr. Manzo was employed for Dresser Rand in Olean, retiring after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Olean Rod and Gun Club, the Cuba Rod and Gun Club and the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He was a New York State Skeet Shooting Class Champion and the New York State Trapshooting Class Champion.
Surviving besides his wife is a son Michael Manzo of Olean; 1 granddaughter Katie (Brad) Camp; 1 great-grandson Tyler Camp; 1 brother Joseph Manzo of West Palm Beach, FL., 1 sister Jean Vastola of West Palm Beach Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Carol Ann Fitzmaurice; 2 brothers Dominic Manzo and Leo Manzo; 3 sisters Rachel Scordo, Sue Porcello and Irene Manzo.
At the request of Mr. Manzo, there will be no services. Memorials if desired may be made to the Olean rod and gun club or to the Cuba rod and gun club.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home.
