Obituary of Ardith Allen

Allegany-- Ardith M. Allen of 2804 Rogers Road, passed away Saturday (February 26, 2011) at her home, with her family by her side. Born August 3, 1930 in Bradford, PA, she was the daughter of Lewis and Hazel May Dubois Coleman. On March 26, 1946 she married Adrian Allen, who predeceased her February 1993. Mrs. Allen retired from the former Conap Industries after 20 years of service. She later went on to work for Hinsdale Central School in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Allegany American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, being outdoors, car rides, playing practical jokes on her friends and children, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and all of her grandchildren. Surviving are her 3 daughters Sharon Nellis, Barbara (Collie) Gilliland of West Clarksville, Terrie (Joseph) Smith of Allegany; 4 step-children Diane (Bruce) Waldeck of Besemeo City, NC, Katie (Tom) Zombro of Myerstown, PA, Steve (Leatrice) Shaffer of Ridgeway, PA; 2 sisters Marilyn (Bill) Johnson of Portville, Norma (Al) Putnam of Oregon; she was blessed with 13 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by 3 sisters Vivian Hahn, Ardis McBride, Anna Stickman; a son in law James Nellis in November of 2007; and a very special man in her life Kenneth "Pop" Shaffer. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday (March 8,2011) at 11am at the Hinsdale Fire Department. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean.
