John L. Sciotti
Olean, NY John L. Sciotti of 1020 East Windfall Rd. died unexpectedly Thursday (February 17, 2011) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.
Born January 16, 1939 in Hornell, NY he was the son of John A. and Lillian Fiacco Sciotti. On October 14, 1989 in Olean he married Maria Agnes Kryniski who survives.
Mr. Sciotti was educated in Parochial schools in Hornell and then the Olean school system. He later attended St. Bonaventure University. He was first employed as a police officer in Salamanca and then Franklinville. He also was a patrolman in Belmont and Olean. He worked for Blumenthal's Shoe Store in Olean and then worked several years as a car salesman for Harry Graves and Son, Inc.. He was last employed for over twelve years as a clerk for the Desoto Motel prior to his retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the National Rifle Association and the St. Stephen's Club. As a younger man he enjoyed working on car engines and he had always enjoyed nature and the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons Govanni (Kathleen Champlin Threadgill) Sciotti of Salamanca and Tim Morgan of Olean; one daughter Julie Morgan of Jamestown; Debbie Lorraine of Jamestown whom he cared for like a daughter; a very special friend Evelyn Everett of Olean; a special little boy James Champlin whom he loved as a grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild soon.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Eva Sciotti in 2009.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (February 21, 2011) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
