"Other Mother and Loving Aunt"
Olean-- Veronica E. Laing formerly of Cranberry Road, passed away Friday (February 11, 2011) at the Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean after a brief illness.
Born July 4, 1914 in Olean, she was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Shubak Martin. On September 22, 1934 in Olean she married Emil "Shine" Laing, who predeceased her July 8, 1967.
Mrs. Laing worked for the former tobacco pipe factor in Olean. She was a long time member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Linnwood Center in Allegany. She enjoyed going to the area church festivals, playing Bingo with her brother Ed at the Pines nursing home and listening to music; especially polka.
Surviving is her brother Edward Martin of Olean; several nieces and nephews including her special nieces and nephews Marilee McNeill, Rodney McNeill, Anne Brucker, Patricia McNeill, Elena Batesky, Mark Batesky, Paul Batesky and Paula Green.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by 3 brothers Andrew Martin III, John Martin, George Martin and 7 sisters Rose Jurenko, Helen Wittenburg, Julia McNeill, Margaret Dann, Elizabeth McGraw, Mary Dornburg and Anne Batesky.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Sunday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday (February 14, 2011) beginning with a 9:30am prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
