Obituary of Gertrude Holtz

Gertrude W. Holtz Olean, NY Gertrude W. Holtz, formerly of Allegany, passed away Tuesday (January 4, 2011) at Sister Pat's Home at 122 S. First Street where she had been lovingly cared for the past eight years. Born November 18, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA she was the daughter of John and Magdalena Widmenn Menges. On September 16, 1950 in Pittsburgh, PA she married Charles R. Holtz who predeceased fourteen years ago to the day on January 4, 1997. Mrs. Holtz lived in Pittsburgh for many years prior to moving to Allegany in 1983. She was first employed as a switchboard operator for Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and later worked in the hospital's nursery. She then worked as a ward clerk in the Intensive Care Unit until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. Surviving are one sister Betty (Nee) Capizzi of Sentinel, CO, several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Also surviving is her special longtime friend and caregiver Sister Pat Perry, OSF. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 6 sisters Florence nester, Theresa Barustiak, Madelyn Menges, Margaret Menges, Sophia Haines and Salvilla Menges. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Angels Church on Saturday (January 8, 2011) at 10 am. Rev. Gregory Dobson, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Sister Pat's Home 122 S.
