Obituary of Alice Atkins

Allegany - Alice B. Atkins of 2035 Four Mile Road passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital.
Born January 12, 1928 in Interlaken, NY, she was the youngest child of C.Morris and Ethyl Brodie Bennett. In 1938 the family moved to Springville, NY and in 1948 Alice graduated from the Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing. On September 22, 1951 she married John C. Atkins, who predeceased her on December 6, 1999.
She worked as a Registered Nurse in maternity at the former St. Francis Hospital for many years and later at the Olean Medical Group, retiring in 1991. Alice was an active 50 plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Olean
Surviving are seven children, James Atkins; Gail (Joseph) Kemp; Ann Kent; Thomas Atkins-all of Allegany; John Atkins of Ormond Beach, FL; Patricia (Rev. Dr. Derek Cheek) Atkins of Olean; Karen Atkins of Columbus, OH; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her beloved dog, Darcy, and a special friend, Norman Case of Hinsdale. Also surviving are brothers John (Margaret) Bennett of Rochester, NY and Lakeland, FL; Hugh (Beatrice) Bennett of Englewood, FL; one sister, Jean Bennett of Rotunda, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Robert Bennett, and two sisters, Helen Donaldson and Phyllis Cromarty.
Friends will be received Monday, December 20th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (December 21, 2010) beginning with a 9:30 prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10am service at the First Presbyterian Church of Olean, 212 Laurens Street, Olean, NY with the Rev. Daniel McKee officiating. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetary.
Memorials, if desired, can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Allegany Fire Department
