Raymond A. Questa
Olean, NY Raymond A. Questa of 1887 Castle Drive died Monday (November 22, 2010) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born April 4, 1916 in Olean, NY he was the son of Angelo and Carolina Malpeli Questa. On November 6, 1954 at St. John's Church in Olean he married Teresa Augostini who survives.
Mr. Questa attended St. Mary of the Angels Parochial School and was a 1935 graduate of Olean High School. He enlisted in the US Navy where he served during WWII from 1941 until 1947. He was a Chief Petty Officer and saw action in the Pacific Theater as part of a land based bomber squadron. He received numerous air medals and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he attended the Rochester Business Institute.
He first owned and operated the Texaco Station in Olean and later was a longtime letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Questa was a member of St. Bonaventure Church where he was a daily communicant for many years. He was a longtime member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Olean Lodge #491. He was a former member of the Allegany American Legion and also of the Christopher Columbus Lodge in Olean. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball and football and he loved to walk and to spend time with his loving family.
Surviving besides his wife are 3 sons Angelo (Nancy) Questa of Boonton, NJ, Daniel Questa of Rochester and Joseph (Barbara) Questa of Allegany; 4 grandchildren Anthony Questa, Nicholas Questa, Santana Questa and Michael Questa and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 sisters Leonora Harvison and Yolanda Questa and 1 niece Angela Harvison.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday (November 26, 2010) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with full military honors being accorded by members of the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Bonaventure Church or to the Allegany Fire Department.
