Obituary of Marjorie G. Kent

Marjorie G. Kent "loving mother and grandmother" Allegany, NY-- Marjorie G. Kent of 16 Cranberry Court died Monday (December 1, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 11, 1924 in Kane, PA she was the daughter of John and Nellie Taylor Guyer. On January 18, 1947 at the Baptist Church in Limestone she married Dean R. Kent who predeceased her December 4, 1996. Mrs. Kent was a graduate of Limestone High School and later served as a nurse with the US Army in the Women’s Army Corps. In 1966 she began work as a nurse for the Olean General Hospital for several years and then for the Cattaraugus County Nursing Home in Machias. She was later employed as a nurse assistant for the Ellicottville Central School prior to her retirement. She was a past commander of the Ellicottville American Legion Post 659 and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She recently became affiliated with the Allegany American Legion. She enjoyed giving of her time to others, including serving as a volunteer for activities at the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse and the Salamanca Nursing Home. She was an avid bingo player and card player, most recently spending time playing cards with residents of Cranberry Court. Mrs. Kent enjoyed traveling each year with her husband to Palestine, TX prior to his death and she was looking forward to the birth of her first great grandchild. Surviving are 4 children Cindy Clancy of Cuba, John (Karen) Kent of Ellicottville, Debra (Joseph) Crowley of Allegany and Dean (Theresa) Kent of Ellicottville; 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sisters Lou Kent and Nina Klice and 1 brother John Guyer. Friends will be received today from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services with full military honors will be held Wednesday (December 3, 2003) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Olean Public Library, the Allegany Fire Department or to the Allegany American Legion.
