Obituary of Joseph Hicks

Olean-- Joseph H. Hicks, formerly of Pine Street in Olean, passed away Tuesday (October 5, 2010), at the Pines Health and Rehabilation Center in Olean, after a lengthy illness.
Born August 26, 1931, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Clyde and Ruth Spalti Hicks. On November 22, 1958 in East Randolph, he married Shirley L. Vaughn, who predeceased him on July 9, 2008.
Mr. Hicks was raised in New Albion, NY and later resided in Holland, NY. He had worked on farms and was a logger for most of his life. From 1952-1957 he was stationed with the US Army in Germany with the demolition engineers.
Surviving are his 10 children Joseph H. (Diane) Hicks, Jr. of Little Genessee, Clyde P. (Angela) Hicks of Jamestown, Wilford B. Hicks of Little Genessee, Marcella (Jacob Sweeney; E4 with the Arizona National Guard) Sweeney of Mesa, AZ., Brian E. (Angela) Hicks of Bolivar, Faith Dombrowski of Olean, Tim (Quinton) Hicks of Olean, Hope M. Smith of Kennedy, Cheryl L. (Darrell) Kellogg of Cuba, Daryl A. (Holly) Hicks of Olean; 42 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Raymond "Skip"Hicks of Fredonia; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road on Friday (October 8, 2010) from 12-1 pm at which time funeral services will begin. Rev. Angela Hicks will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
