Obituary of Raymond Johnson

Raymond A. Johnson Olean, NY Raymond A. Johnson of 110 N. 9th St. died Sunday (May 30, 2010) in the Wellsville Manor after a sudden illness. Born March 5, 1942 in Olean, NY he was the son of Arthur and Frances Nowaczyk Johnson. On July 28, 1966 in Portville, NY he married Sheryl L. Miller who predeceased him on May 14, 2003. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Olean High School and had attended St. Bonaventure University. He worked for many years for the youth in the area through the YMCA as a swimming and tennis instructor as well as a basketball coach. He also worked in the construction trade as well. For the past 30 plus years he had been a salesman and financier for Owl Homes of Allegany. It was there that he enjoyed expressing his sense of humor by joking and laughing with his co-workers. He was very passionate about gardening, especially growing flower gardens at his home. He was also an avid pet lover as well as a sports fan, especially basketball and baseball and he enjoyed playing golf. Surviving are 2 daughters Beth Ann (John) Ratzel of Smethport, PA and Amy Lynn Johnson of Olean; 2 granddaughters; 1 sister Nancy (Thomas) Dalio of Jacksonville, NC and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (June 2, 2010) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor of St. Bonaventure Church, will officiate.
