Ceres, NY-- John L. Irvin, Sr. of 9279 Rte 417, passed away Friday (May 21, 2010), after a long illness, surrounded by his family.
Born January 19, 1948 in Bradford, PA, he was the son of Orville John Shields and June Kramer, he was later adopted by Robert Irvin, Sr.
Mr. Irvin worked as a handyman for several years. He kept busy with odd jobs and was always willing to help his family, friends or anyone that needed it. He loved spending time at Karol's Kitchen, Hasta's, The Hut, and Donut Depot. Mr. Irvin enjoyed drinking Tim Horton's coffee and strawberry milkshakes and listening to his favorite songs Big Bad John, 16 Tons and Ring of Fire.
Surviving are his 6 sons Martin (Tammy) Irvin of Friendship, Richard Irvin of Wellsville, John Irvin Jr., of Friendship, Russell Irvin of Bolivar, Wayne Irvin of Olean, Robert (Christina) Irvin of Fort Drum; 3 daughters Christine (Tony) Napoleoni of Ceres, Betty Feaster of Friendship, Jodi (Donald) Mallery of Olean; 2 brothers Jeff Irvin of Olean, Robert (Tammy) Irvin of Burlington, NC; 3 sisters Patricia Crawford of Olean, Elizabeth Irvin of Olean, Julie Irvin of Franklinville; 24 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his dad Orville, a brother Joseph Irvin, a grandson Cory Irvin, and brother in law Russell Crawford.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home on Monday from 4-6pm. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday (May 25, 2010)at 10am at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Kaple with the Haskell Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cuba Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Services.
