Obituary of Gertrude Barnes

Olean-- Gertrude Trowbridge Barnes, of 161 S. 25th Street, and a lifelong resident of Allegany, passed away Wednesday (April 21, 2010) at the Olean General Hospital, after a full and productive life of ninety- five years.
Born October 5, 1914 in Wellsville, she was the daughter of C.B. and Rena Foster Trowbridge. On March 18, 1935 in Wellsville, she married her life-long love, Gerald Barnes, who predeceased her.
Mrs. Barnes had worked for many years at K-Bar in Olean, before becoming a full-time homemaker. She loved to play cards and Bingo, but most of her time was spent being the matriarch and beloved aunt and sister to her large extended family.
She is survived by her one brother William "Bill" Trowbridge of Allegany; two sisters Irene Mae "Susie" Heck of Newfane, NY, Hilda Roderick of Olean; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, who are located throughout the United States.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Howard Trowbridge, Foster Trowbridge, Adrian "Doc" Trowbridge, Herbert "Dutch" Trowbridge, Frederick "Jimmy" Trowbridge; and her sisters Greta Trowbridge, Louise Trowbridge and Catherine Glover.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home on Saturday (April 24, 2010) from 1:00 until 2:30pm at which funeral services will begin. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
