James C. McIntosh
Allegany, NY-- James C. McIntosh of 4146 Route 417, recently of The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean died Sunday (February 28, 2010) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born August 2, 1926 in Buffalo, NY he was the son of Claude S. and Theodosia Burr McIntosh.
Mr. McIntosh was first employed by Niagara Mohawk Co. at the former Huntley plant in North Tonawanda. He then enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and served aboard the LST 997 in the South Pacific during WWII.
He was then trained and worked as an auto body repairman from the 1940's to the 1960's for the former Kenmore Motors Co. in Lancaster, NY. He moved to the Central New York area where he formed the Onondaga Appraisal Service and was self employed as a claims adjustor in the insurance industry. He last worked for many years for MetLife Insurance Co. as a senior auto and homeowner adjustor in Central New York.
He played the drums professionally for many years and was a member of the Buffalo Musicians Union. He enjoyed traveling, cross country skiing and water sports, especially swimming and water skiing. He was also a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892.
Surviving are 7 children Cheryl Ann (David) Corry of Clarence Center, NY, Susan (Louise) Sallie of Carlisle, PA, James G. McIntosh of Lopez Island, WA, Brian (Robin) DeVelvis) McIntosh of Houston, TX, Marianne (Edward) Leddick of West Seneca, NY, Donald Jay (Cori) of Allegany, NY and Alan Scott (Kim) McIntosh of San Mateo, CA; ___ grandchildren Jamie Ann Corry, Adam (Beth) Corry, Shane (Laurie) Sallie, Kimberly Sallie, Gregory (Kate) Sallie, Jamison McIntosh, Erin Lew, Josh (Kristin) Leddick, Amanda (Arron) Whitmore, Melissa (Ben Chew) McIntosh, Donald Jay McIntosh, Jr., Amanda McIntosh and Hayley McIntosh; 14 great grandchildren; 1 sister Nancy (George) Holub of Summerfield, NC; 1 brother Donald (Mary) McIntosh of Texas, several nieces and nephews and his former wife Helen (Gonzalez) McIntosh.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial graveside service to be held later this summer on Saturday (July 24, 2010) at 11:00am in the Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor. Members of the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team will conduct military services at the grave.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center 623 Main St. Olean, NY 14760. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
