Joyce A. Jonak
Allegany, NY Joyce A. Jonak, a lifelong resident of Allegany, passed away Friday (October 20, 2023) at the Olean General Hospital, after a short illness.
Born February 4, 1942 in Olean, she was the daughter of Kenneth Leo and Rita M. Stomierosky Keim. On June 29, 1963 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany she married Raymond J. Jonak who predeceased her December 2, 2021.
Joyce was a graduate of Allegany Central School. Shortly after graduation she worked for the Cattaraugus County Health Department in Olean. She raised her family of 3 children and also worked for J.C. Penny Co. for over 25 years.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and was active as a lector, a eucharistic minister, a parish council member, and a volunteer for The Bridge. She was also a member of the Lady Knights in Allegany, the Allegany High School Alumni Association, and the Allegany Historical Society. She enjoyed being active with the Sixty Plus Club in Allegany, especially the “Crafty Ladies”. For 17 years she and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels.
She leaves behind 3 children, Michele (Matthew) Pecone of South Park, PA, Theresa (Michael) Mundy of Beaver, PA and Raymond (Mariah) Jonak of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren Jacob (Katie) Pecone, Grant (Victoria) Mundy, Anthony (Angelina) Pecone, Kate (Ryan) Sinnema, and Knox Jonak; 1 great grandson, Chase Pecone; 1 sister Kathy (Tim) Outman of Alachua, FL; 1 brother Ken (Bonnie) Keim of Bradenton, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Ray, she was predeceased by her parents; and a brother Michael Keim on July 14, 2009.
The family welcomes friends to a memorial visitation on Friday (October 27, 2023) from 10am to 11am at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany. A memorial mass will begin at 11am in the church. Rev. Michael Reyes, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery at a later date.
