Laura J. Ackley
Wellsville, NY Laura J. Ackley of 196 E. Dyke St., passed away peacefully Wednesday (May 4, 2022) at UR Jones Memorial Hospital, having received her celestial reward at the age of 55.
Laura was born December 3, 1966 to Lloyd H. and Leda Boser Ackley and was raised on Chipmonk Road in Allegany with her 7 siblings.
Laura was flirtatious and outgoing, and enjoyed people once she got past the initial shyness. She loved musicals, dancing, and surprises. The ocean was especially fun for her. Animals were one of her favorites and sharing in the joy of a newborn baby-animal or human- would cause her to celebrate with delight.
She will be remembered by her family, especially her sisters, beginning with the early days of helping her exercise as a young child so she could unfold and eventually walk and dance a bit. Family visits were important to her once she moved to Wellsville to be cared for by the ARC. She wanted to get the children’s attention, and she listened to the adults with interest. It caused her frustration not to be able to communicate the way she wanted. Still, she will be missed by many nieces and nephews as well as the many people to whom she brought her smile and laughter to in Wellsville.
She leaves behind her brother and sisters Lloyd Ackley of Alabama, Rebecca (John) Mortenson of Sugar Grove, PA, Valerie Ackley of Allegany, and Cynthia (Wayne) Lombardo of North Tonawanda and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings Mary Foley, Henry Ackley, Wanda Bryer and an infant brother George Ackley.
A visitation and funeral service is being planned for Saturday (May 14, 2022) from 9am to 11am at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. The service will begin at 11am and will be conducted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial will be next to her parents in Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to an animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
