Carol J. Thompson
Allegany, NY Carol J. Thompson died peacefully at the age of 90 on Thursday (October 11, 2018) at Olean General Hospital.
Born June 11, 1928 in Clymer, New York, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Minnie Rhebergen Ton. On November 3, 1950, she married Gail P. Thompson who pre-deceased her on July 3, 2013.
Carol was a graduate of Clymer Central School and a 1950 graduate of WCA Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. Her nursing career spanned 50 years, first at hospitals in Jamestown and Corry, PA, and later for more than 20 years at St. Bonaventure University where she retired as Director of Health Services in 1993.
Carol was devoted to her family and her community. With her husband, she was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She also played golf and was active in area bridge clubs.
Surviving are a son, Mark P. (Gayle) Thompson of Wellsboro, PA; a daughter Sally J. (Edwin) Broad of Buffalo; 3 grandchildren Katie Thompson, Scott (Michelle) DeRose and Matthew (Jill) DeRose; 3 great grandchildren, Emma DeRose, Elliott DeRose and Jacob DeRose and one sister, Marlea Brown of Chautauqua. She was predeceased by sisters Donna Swanson and Eleanor Mae Ton.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
