Kay H. McCarthy

Allegany, NY     Kay H. McCarthy of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. Lot 202 passed away Tuesday (October 9, 2018) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.

Born September 21, 1933 in Olean she was the daughter of Elton and Helen Blessing.  On Aril 28, 1956 in Allegany he married James W. McCarthy who predeceased her October 8, 1996.

Kay was a graduate of Allegany Central School and received her RN degree while a student at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as a nurse for a short time but was principally a homemaker who took pride in her home.  She enjoyed gardening, loved music and was a fan of college football, especially Notre Dame.

Surviving are three children Sarah (David Steimel) McCarthy, John McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy, all of Florida; 1 grandson Nathan McCarthy; 1 great grandson Easton McCarthy; 1 brother Thomas (Donna) Blessing of Olean; a son-in-law Neil Sturdy of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Mary C. Sturdy on July 4, 2018; a sister Mary Blessing and a brother Mark Blessing.

There will be no visitation.  A private burial will take place at Allegany Cemetery.  

Memorials may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, PO Box 375, Olean, NY 14760.
