Marion Lois Shaffer
Allegany, NY Marion Lois Shaffer of 3251 Five Mile Rd. passed away peacefully Tuesday (October 9, 2018) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born November 25, 1927 in Eldred, PA she was the daughter of Percy and Bessie Dutton Skiver. On October 16, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany she married Douglas A. Shaffer who predeceased her January 16, 2005.
Mrs. Shaffer was a 1948 graduate of Allegany High School. She held various jobs over the years but her main position in life was as the matriarch of the Shaffer farm.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany and enjoyed crocheting, playing Seneca bingo and being in the company of her cats. She especially loved spending time with her family, particularly her great grandchildren.
Surviving are 3 children Marsha (Tom) Hartnett, Donald A. (Deanna) Shaffer and James D. Shaffer, all of Allegany; 6 grandchildren Christopher (Darlene) Wilber, Jessica Shaffer, Jennifer (Mark) Ruggles, Amanda (Ed) Lemon, Melissa (Steve) Locke and T.J. (Emma) Hartnett; 10 great grandchildren Elliott Wilber, Reese Wilber, Sydney Wilber, Kyle Ruggles, Kameron Ruggles, Brittany Ruggles, Aiden Donohue, Kaleb Lemon, Kendall Lemon and Gavin Peters; 1 brother-in-law Richard Black of Wellsville and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and 12 siblings Lawrence Skiver, Francis Skiver, Bessie Mix, Agnes Skiver, Clara Jerge, Dorothy Harmon, Virginia Skiver, James Skiver, Richard Skiver, Clifford Skiver, Howard Skiver and Edith Black.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 5-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7pm in the funeral home. Rev. Gerard leFeber, retired, will officiate. A private graveside service will be held Friday at Allegany Cemetery.
