Madelyn A. "Madge" Ash
Olean, NY Madelyn A. "Madge" Ash, of 500 E. Spring St. and a former longtime resident of 1215 W. Henley St. passed away Friday (September 28, 2018) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born July 15, 1925 in Olean she was the daughter of Edward J. and Cecelia J. Fritsch Ash, Sr.
Madge was a lifelong resident of Olean and had been employed by the former S.S. Kresge Co. for 31 years. She also worked as a switchboard operator for St. Bonaventure University for 19 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Maronite Church and its Altar Society. She was also a member of the Olean Senior League, the Interfaith Caregivers and the Hospital Guild, where she formerly served as president. She was an avid line dancer, enjoyed golfing and was a wonderful volunteer visitor at area nursing homes.
Surviving are 2 brothers Michael "Mickey" (Christine) Ash of Springhill, FL and Donald Ash of Arcadia, CA and several loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 2 sisters Gail Snyder and Dorothy Duffy and a brother Edward J. Ash, Jr..
Friends will be received on Friday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Joseph's Maronite Rite Church on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 9:00 am. The Rev. Anthony J. Salim, Pastor will celebrate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. There will be a Service of Incense held Friday at 6:30pm in the funeral home.
