Margaret E. "Peggy" Furey

Olean, NY     Margaret E. "Peggy" Furey, 80 of Olean died on Friday (August 17, 2018) at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after a long illness.

Born November 8, 1937 in Utahville, PA she was the daughter of Willard and Elizabeth Lloyd Flick.  Margaret attended Coalport High School in Pennsylvania and on February 19, 1955 she married John Charles Furey, Jr. of Olean who survives.

Margaret worked for many years at Ried’s Food Barn in Olean.  She enjoyed rides in the country with her husband and watching television comedies such as “I Love Lucy” and “The Golden Girls”.   Margaret loved her root beer floats.

Left to honor and remember Margaret in addition to her husband are her daughter, Joyce Furey of Olean; her son John Furey III of San Diego, CA; 7 grandchildren; Crystal Blaske-Cooney of Allegany, Steve Blaske of Olean, Vincent Ryan Martinelli of Rochester, Ashley Bilby of FL, Brett Furey of Columbus, OH, Brandon Furey of Chico, CA and Ethan Furey of San Diego, CA; a daughter-in-law Ellen Furey of San Diego, CA; 2 great grandchildren Bentley Blaske and Braxton Cooney; a brother Charles Flick of PA; 2 sisters, Martha Lovell of PA and Gloria Smith of Olean; several nephews and several nieces, especially Cindy Karroach and Lori Slavin.  Special recognition goes to Jim Karroach who has been extremely supportive of the family.  

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a grandson Mathew Martinelli; 2 brothers Robert Wayne Lloyd and Theodore Richard Flick and a nephew Randall Smith.

There will be a small memorial visitation for friends and family at the Casey Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday (August 20, 2018) from 10AM-11AM.  A service will follow at 11am in the funeral home.  A private burial will take place at St. Bonaventure University at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret Furey are welcome to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105-3678 (stjude.org).
