Norman A. Samurin

Allegany, NY     Norman A. Samurin of Allegany passed away suddenly Saturday (February 24, 2018) at his home.

Born March 2. 1944 in Irvington, NJ he was the son of Gilbert and Helen Loshin Samurin.  On June 12, 1966 in Short Hills, NJ he married Ann Haskin who survives.

Mr. Samurin graduated from Livingston N.J. High School and later received a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

He began employment for Elliott Co. in Jeanette, PA for 13 years and then he worked for Dresser Industries in Houston for 3 years.  In 1983 he and his family moved to Allegany where for 30 years he worked at Dresser Rand.  In recent years he had worked from his home as an engineering consultant for A+-QMC Co., Ltd.

He was a member and past president of the B'Nai Israel Temple in Olean and his hobbies included golfing and operating a small photography service for special occasions.  He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served as a former president of two different local chapters.  He also used his leadership skills as a regional vice president of an eastern region of mechanical engineers.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years are a son Steven (Darcy) Samurin of West Seneca; a daughter Sharon (John) Pallas of North Olmsted, OH; 5 grandchildren Zachary Samurin, Taylor Samurin, Alexis Pallas, Isabelle Pallas and Thomas Pallas; a sister Carol (Ken) Nover of South Amboy, NJ and nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Tuesday (February 27, 2018) from noon to 1pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.  Services will immediately follow at 1pm in the funeral home.  Burial will be in B'Nai Israel Cemetery in Olean.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to B'Nai Israel Temple, P.O. Box 224, Olean, NY 14760.  Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com.
