Michael R. Van Cleaf
Olean, NY Michael R. Van Cleaf of 1657 Seneca Ave. passed away Wednesday (December 6, 2017) at the Olean General Hospital after a long battle with a heart ailment.
Born May 11, 1949 in Olean he was the son of George and Anna McPeak Van Cleaf, I. He was formerly married to Wendy Wiggins of Dayton, OH.
Michael worked for Accent Striping Co., a subcontracting company for the NYS Department of Transportation and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and skeet shooting. What he received the most joy from was being the most wonderful father and grandfather he could be. Despite his ailment, he fought to maintain his health so he could enjoy more days with his family.
Surviving are 5 children Danielle (Justin) Spencer of Olean, Trevor VanHout of Newark, Jacob Van Cleaf of Des Moines, IA, Anthony Lane of Rochester and Shawn (Michael) Waddell of Dayton, OH; 6 grandchildren Leah VanHout, Jianna Walker, Dayohmi Spencer, Justin Spencer, Jr., Sapho Hocker and Michael Waddell, Jr.; 2 brothers George Van Cleaf, II of Arcade and Henry Van Cleaf of Olean and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister Stephanie Van Cleaf.
Friends will be received on Monday (December 11, 2017) from 3:30pm to 5:30pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Services will immediately follow at 5:30pm in the funeral home. There will be a reception following the service at a place to be determined. The Rev. Gerald Slack Sr. of the Sacred Temple Church of God in Christ in Olean will officiate.
Those wishing to make a donation in Michael's memory are asked to consider a financial memorial to key members of the family for the benefit of his grandchildren whom he was devoted to helping care for.
