Paul E. Wind “Loving husband, father, grandfather” Allegany, NY—Paul E. Wind, CPA of 124 N. 5th St. died Saturday (February 23, 2008) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo after a short illness. Born February 7, 1938 in Attica, NY he was the son of Anthony and Teresa Devlin Wind. On June 8, 1957 at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Key West, FL he married Patricia Morales, his wife for 50 years, who survives. Mr. Wind was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Korean War. He was a 1965 graduate of St. Bonaventure University. He resided in Rochester for several years prior to moving to Olean where he had been employed as a comptroller for the former L’Alcove Castle, Inc. and in 1981 established his own CPA firm in Olean, retiring in 2000. Mr. Wind gave fully of himself to the charitable causes he believed in. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1954 and served in many positions in both the Allegany and Olean councils. As an honorary lifetime member of the Olean Council #338 he served as Grand Knight and was currently serving as its financial secretary. He also helped establish and was a longtime cochairman of its annual fundraising golf tournament. He was a dedicated volunteer for the weekly bingo and in 2000 he received the Knight of the Year award. He also held the office of State District Deputy for the Western Chapter District 75. He was also a longtime member of the Olean Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and served as Past Faithful Navigator. He was a former member of the Barber Shoppers singers where in 1981 he was named Barber Shopper of the Year. Along with his wife he loved to dance and was currently serving as vice president of the Amherst Dance Club and also danced in the Ball and Chain Club in Olean. Mr. Wind was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and was a former president of the Olean Kiwanis Club in 1987. He enjoyed golfing and was proud of having made a recent hole in one. He also took pride in maintaining his home where he enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He recently won a home Christmas lighting contest and was continually building new decorations with his woodworking skills. Surviving besides his wife are 3 children Thomas (Tammy) Wind of Albany, Teresa (James) Rowe of East Concord and Dorothy (Dillon) Constable of Rochester; 6 grandchildren Tyler Wind, Ryan Wind, twins Devyn Rowe and Payton Rowe, Rowan Constable and Brody Constable; 2 brothers Anthony (Ruth) Wind of Siloam Spring, Arkansas and Charles (Norma) Wind of Medina; 2 sisters Sr. Norma Wind, OSF of Buffalo and Marilyn (Richard) Brunner of Cameron Park, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Laura Jean Wind in 1971 at the age of 5 and a brother Warren Wind. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (February 27, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the principal celebrant and Rev. Greg Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will concelebrate. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Cemetery in Spencerport, NY. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Olean Council #338 129 Hamilton St. Olean, NY 14760 or to Roswell Park Cancer Research Institute PO Box 631 Buffalo, NY 14240.
