Obituary of Mildred Cartenuto Butts

Mildred Cartenuto Butts “Inspirational Mother and Grandmother” Olean, NY—Mildred Butts, a resident of Olean since 1998, died Sunday (March 2, 2008) at the Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean where she had resided since August 2006. Born March 6, 1912 in Rochester she was the daughter of Joseph V. Cartenuto and Ethel !McCrae Cartenuto. On August 8, 1935 at St. Andrew’s Church in Rochester she married George J. Butts who predeceased her in 2005. Mrs. Butts was raised in Rochester where she graduated from Nazareth Academy and attended a post-secondary program for secretarial skill training. She taught piano and worked in an insurance agency until the time of her marriage. She then became a vital member of the family printing business, Lakeview Printing Company of Rochester. She was also a longtime active member of St. Andrew’s Church where she participated in several committees. Specifically, she shared her musical skills by writing, producing and performing in an annual original musical production at her church. She was also active in the Rochester Credit Union with her husband. Mrs. Butts enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling. She and her husband retired to Hollywood, FL before returning to the northeast and residing in Aspen Tower in Olean in 1998. At that time she and her husband joined St. John’s parish where they made many friends. Until her early 90’s, she and her husband lived independently. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, grace in the face of adversity and wisdom. Surviving are one daughter Jeanne (Rob) Walk of Cuba; 2 grandchildren Elizabeth (Jonathan) Enzinna and Christopher Walk; a great grandson Alexander Walk-Pircio; 2 sisters-in-law Sister M. Bernard and Marie Trott, both of Rochester; a brother-in-law Edward Butts of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a twin sister Marjorie when she was 4 years old and by a daughter Marjorie Marie in 1992. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (March 29, 2008) at 1:00pm in St. John’s Church in Olean. A reception will be held following the mass at St. Bonaventure clubhouse at 2:15pm. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, is desired, may be made to Friends of the Pines 2245 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to the Cuba Library 39 E. Main St. Cuba, NY 14727.
