James R. “Jimmer” Aiello Allegany, NY—James R. “Jimmer”Aiello of Smith Hollow Road died Sunday (November 16, 2008) shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital. Born May 9, 1950 in Olean, NY he was the son of Frank “Chic” and Gloria Sutherland Aiello. On November 27, 1982 in Olean he married his beloved Cynthia Cash who survives. “Jimmer” was an outstanding athlete at Olean High School, Class of 1969 where he lettered in basketball, football and baseball. He was the recipient of the “George Burlingame MVP Football Award” in 1968 which made him a select member of the ’41-’42 Football Club. He served as the treasurer of this club for over 25 years. An avid sportsman and coach, Mr. Aiello coached YMCA Youth Basketball for many years and more recently coached JV Basketball at Allegany Limestone Central School. He never missed the joy of watching his boys in their numerous athletic games. He was a devoted family man and the great prankster to his siblings. His desire for family get-togethers and his famous grill work was unmatched. He was a wonderful brother-in-law and he adored his mother-in-law. Mr. Aiello attended Hudson Valley College and then worked at the family business, Olean Beer Supply, as office manager until its closing. He also worked at Meadow Brook Dairy, the Country Inn and Suites, and most recently at Trippi Foods until his retirement due to health concerns. Surviving besides his wife of 26 years are 5 children Stephen (Kathy) Aiello of Arizona, Jamie (Anthony) Mariani of Indiana, Nicholas Aiello of Tioga, Peter Aiello of Allegany and Marcus Aiello at home; 3 grandchildren Anthony, Ashlee and Austin Mariani; 4 brothers Dennis (Connie) Hall of Florida, Frank (Nancy) Aiello of Olean, William (Patty) Aiello of Olean and Robert (Jan) Aiello of Horseheads; 2 sisters Rose Aiello Howard of Olean and Sandy Aiello (Dave) Frey of Bradford, PA; an uncle Dennis (Thomasina) Aiello of Olean; an aunt Philomena Aiello of Allegany and 60 nieces and nephews who knew him well and loved him. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (November 20, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a memorial college fund being established for his son Marcus. The Olean Area Federal Credit Union 1201 Wayne St. will accept contributions.
