Bernice Galmer Olean, NY—Bernice Galmer of 401 Alder St. died Tuesday (November 18, 2008) in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Cuba, NY. Born September 28, 1924 in Smithfield, PA she was the daughter of Joseph and Rosa Morris Herbert. On October 18, 1954 in Hinsdale she married Neal Galmer who predeceased her August 9, 1971. Mrs. Galmer had resided in West Virginia and Pennsylvania prior to moving to Olean in 1951. She had been employed in the housekeeping department of St. Bonaventure University and also worked in the homes of many prominent Olean families over the years. As a very generous woman, she was a volunteer for the Home League of the Salvation Army, and was affectionately known to her friends and neighbors as “Neighborhood Nanny”. She had been a member of the Church of God of Prophecy for the past 13 years. Surviving are 4 children Neal R. (Jean) Galmer of Weston’s Mills, Lisa R. (Thyleb) Ramadhan, Anna G. Galmer and Cheryl L. (Doug Shoup) Galmer, all of Olean; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 brother Joseph Herbert of Olean; 3 sisters Anna Genevieve Ashraf of Arlington, TX, Martha Peterson of Buckeye, AZ and Nellie Daniels of Olean and several nieces and nephews including Sharlene R. Herbert of Austin, TX, Sonja Yarborough of Arlington, TX and Sandra A. Padget of Olean. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sisters Wilma Gayton and Mary Jackson and 2 brothers-in-law Kasban Ashraf and Benjamin Peterson. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (November 22, 2008) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Bishop Marion Richey will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
