Obituary of Ricky J. Schummer

Ricky J. Schummer Allegany, NY Ricky J. Schummer, formerly of 2639 Five Mile Rd., passed away Wednesday (April 1, 2026) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean, where he had been residing in recent years. Born January 6, 1947 in Buffalo he was the son of Lester and Dorothy Dombroski Schummer. Ricky was a graduate of Eden Central High School and later of SUNY Fredonia. He received his Master’s in Education from St. Bonaventure University. He had been employed as a schoolteacher at Allegany-Limestone Elementary School for 37 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed coaching his sons in Little League baseball and also at other levels of the sport through to the varsity level. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are 2 sons, Michael (Sarah Fleming) Schummer of Jordan, NY and Andrew Schummer of Salt Lake City, UT; 2 grandchildren Christopher and Matthew; 3 siblings Susan Buel, Leslee Rigoli and Gary Schummer; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Wiltse, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, David Schummer on May 1, 2022. The family will receive friends on Monday (April 6, 2026) from 2-5pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A funeral service will begin at 5pm in the funeral home. Cremation will follow, with burial at the convenience of the family.
