Obituary of Erik G. Hartburg

Erik Hartburg, of Olean, NY, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, gentle humor, and heartfelt faith. He was born on August 20, 1949, in Ketchikan, Alaska. An Alaskan native, Erik was adopted as a toddler and carried the resilient spirit of his beginnings throughout his life. Affectionately known as “Sunshine,” Erik truly lived up to his nickname. Though a quiet man, he had a wonderful sense of humor that would often catch you by surprise. He found simple joys in life — especially music and a good cup of coffee. Whether listening to his favorite songs or sharing coffee with those around him, these small pleasures brought him comfort and connection. Erik is survived by his sister, Lissy Hartburg of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and by his very special advocate and dear friend, Emily McClelland, whose dedication and care meant so much to him. Erik became part of the Intandem family in 2007 as a resident in their Supportive Apartments before transitioning into assisted living, where he found his true home at the Big 6 residence. There, he was surrounded by staff and friends who cared deeply for him and supported him in living a full and meaningful life. Although Erik’s lifelong dream was to be a bus driver, he found great purpose and pride in his work at the Intandem Solutions building beginning in 2009, where he made many valuable contributions before retiring in 2018. Following his retirement, he attended the Linwood Center in Allegany, where he formed lifelong friendships that enriched his days. Erik’s faith was central to his life. His church family at First Baptist Church in Olean was especially important to him, providing spiritual comfort, fellowship, and a sense of belonging that he cherished deeply. Friends will be received Friday (February 20, 2026) from 11:00 a.m. to 12 pm at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean. A funeral service will begin at 12. A livestream link will be available for those unable to attend in person: http://buffalomedia.net/02202026. Burial will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Olean. In accordance with Erik’s wishes, memorial donations may be made to Buffalo Children’s Hospital in his honor.
