Obituary of Gregory W. Pearl

Gregory W. Pearl Loving Husband, Father, and Papa Allegany, NY Gregory W. Pearl of 31 North 5th St, Allegany, NY, passed away on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) after a brief illness. Born on November 21, 1958, in Olean, NY, Greg spent much of his adult life in Allegany, where he devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family and community. Greg met the love of his life, Sandra J. Pearl, while working at the Beef ’n Barrel. In 1984, they went on to own and operate S&G Pizza, which, until 2002, was a beloved place where wing nights, Friday fish fries, and the legendary taco pizza became part of the community’s shared memories. After the restaurant, Greg worked for Curtze Food Service until he retired, where he made many friends and championed the growth of local businesses. As always, Greg wanted to eat and shop local. Beyond his work life, Greg poured his boundless energy into supporting local youth. He coached Little League, eventually serving as its President; led the ALCS Sports Boosters; coached Archbishop Walsh Varsity Baseball; and, above all, invested his time and heart in the future of Allegany’s kids and families. His generosity, humor, quick wit, and steadfast care helped shape not just those teams, kids, and families, but an entire community. For the past decade, Greg served as Mayor of the Village of Allegany, where he once again dedicated himself (often passionately and always wholeheartedly) to what he believed was best for the community’s future. Greg lived big, dreamed big, laughed loud, and fought hard. There was no half measure with him; whatever he did, he did all in, and he lived life entirely his way. His family and friends loved him for it and will profoundly miss that energy and passion, his force. Surviving are his wife, Sandra J. Pearl; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kelley Pearl; and his beloved grandchildren, Ella and Jackson Pearl. He is also lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Marie Kowalik, Timothy Whitney, and Ronald Whitney; his step grandchildren, Sarah, Abbey, Morgan, and Austin Whitney; and his beautiful great-grandchild, Sophie LaCorazza. And not to be outdone in the laser focus and energy of his love, he leaves behind his three loud and rambunctious dogs, Madeline, Lucy, and Lillian (his Girls!). He is further survived by his mother, Frances Palumbo; his sisters, Denise Lippert and Cindy Pearl; and his niece, nephew, and grandniece—Brittney Paddison, Shane Paddison, and the ever-vivacious Fiona Padlo—each of whom brought him immense joy and pride, especially when he got to relentlessly tease them. He was predeceased by his much-loved and remembered sister Laura Pearl as well as his aunt and uncle, Helen and Peter Waskow. Friends will be received Sunday, October 19, from 12pm to 3pm at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A memorial service will begin at 3pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 2944 Olean-Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760 (https://spcacattco.org/). Please put it in honor of Greg and his Girls!
