Obituary of Dorothy L. Menter

Dorothy L. “Dodie” Menter Allegany, NY Dorothy Luella “Dodie” Menter, 82, of Allegany, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to join her husband and beloved siblings on Saturday (September 20, 2025). Born June 1, 1943 in Olean, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Dorothy VanHorn Bell. On October 12, 1963 in Olean, she married Robert E. “Moose” Menter who predeceased her September 25, 2017. Dodie graduated from Olean High School and had several jobs over the years around Olean before opening her own hair salon on 9th Street where the family lived. She was a devoted Christian and an accomplished singer, even traveling to Australia with her Christian group. Surviving are her three sons, Bobby (Kelly) Menter, David (Amy Dimpfl) Menter, and Stephen (Tracey Spears) Menter, all of Olean; ten grandchildren, Dylan, Tuni, Bobby Jr., Aaron, Alexis, Austin, Grace, Jonah, Wyatt, and Shaye; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Kaylee; one brother, Dale (Michelle) Bell of Olean, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Bob, she was predeceased by a sister Patricia Bell, and 2 brothers, David Bell and Brian “Danny” Bell. A celebration of Dodie’s life will be held at the St. Stephen’s Club in Olean on Saturday (October 25, 2025) from noon until 3pm. A private burial will take place in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 1644 Olean Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760. Arrangements are with the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
