Obituary of Marlyn A. Gayton
Olean- Marlyn A. Gayton, 65, passed away unexpectedly Friday (May 16, 2025) at the Olean General Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born August 15, 1959, in Olean, she was the daughter of Serell S. Santee-Gayton and Audrey M. Peterson Gayton.
Marlyn graduated from Olean High School in 1977. She held various job positions throughout the years, including accountant for the collections department for Cattaraugus County, bank teller and associate for Stewarts, Fashion Bug, G&G, Rue 21, and most recently, Bon Ton until their closing in 2018. She was currently working part-time at Marshalls as a stock associate.
She loved fashion, photography, Prince, Maya Angelou, collecting angels, and listening to music. Her love for a good quote would help guide her throughout her days.
Marlyn had a strong work ethic, and her kindness and friendly attitude are what would draw people to her, and she would always be sure to say hello. She enjoyed shopping for herself and, more importantly, for others. She found immense joy in finding things in a store and giving them to others because she knew it would make their day. She cherished the memories of watching Tyler grow up, being happy, and would scrapbook moments, whether it was his name being in the newspaper, or him attending a concert or sporting event. She captured many pictures and would display them throughout the house as she loved to reflect on the great bond that Tyler and she had together. Being a mother to Tyler was her main and greatest priority in life.
She is survived by her beloved son, Tyler Plaud of Olean; her mother Audrey M. Gayton of Olean; her sisters: Audrey O. Gayton, Christine Gayton, Debra Gayton, Calisse Gayton, and Lori Gayton; brothers: Serrell M. Gayton, Stanley Pierce, and Norman Gayton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father and by 3 brothers, Timothy A. Gayton, Vernon Gayton, Sr., and Duane C. Gayton.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 12 pm to 2pm at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean. Funeral services will begin at 2pm.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. or to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
