Arlene M. Chapin
Allegany, NY Arlene M. Chapin, a longtime resident of the Five Mile Rd., passed away Friday (July 16, 2021) at her home in the loving presence of her family.
Born July 23, 1927 in Olean, she was the daughter of Everett and Grace Horton Turner. On February 28, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Olean she married Paul A. Chapin who predeceased her September 11, 2012.
Arlene resided in Olean until 1939 and was a 1945 graduate of Allegany High School. She had been employed for 8 years as a school bus driver and later worked as a nurse’s aide for 7 years at Olean General Hospital.
Family was central to her life and she thoroughly loved being in the company of her children, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was dedicated to her church, the Creekside Chapel in Allegany. She enjoyed making quilts for family members, knitting baby hats for use at the Olean General Hospital, and making sweaters for charitable purposes at the Guideposts Treatment Center.
Surviving are 3 children Douglas (Deborah) Chapin, Beverly (“Gene”) Geyer and Carolyn Crawford, all of Allegany; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law Eileen Turner and Doris Bonhoff, both of Allegany and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law Albert P. and Ellen Chapin and their 1 year-old daughter Alanna on January 24, 1988, and 2 brothers Leo Turner and Loren Turner.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (July 21, 2021) at 11am in the funeral home. Rev. Adam Stein, pastor of Creekside Chapel in Allegany, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
