An avid reader and book collector, he also had a passion for sports. He particularly enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, and used his penchant for numbers and horses to develop and market a horse racing game that he continued to update until shortly before his death. Together with his wife, he was able to visit several of the largest thoroughbred tracks throughout the country. He and his family were longtime members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in South Vandalia before the church was closed. He attended Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Ellicottville for several years after St. John’s closure.
