Obituary of Anthony A. Gallo

Anthony A. Gallo Olean, NY Anthony A. Gallo, of Olean, passed away Friday (January 15, 2021) at his home, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. Born June 3, 1942 in Schenectady, he was the son of Angelo and Carmella Malgieri Gallo. On January 7, 1972 in Cleveland, OH, he married Carol A. Schimpf, who survives. Tony studied at Union College in Schenectady and then completed his doctoral work in biochemistry from Tufts University. He first taught at Case Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, OH. He transitioned to industry, and began a career as a chemist for Hysol Corp. in Indianapolis, IN, later transferring to the Olean plant in 1983. Over the years he held at least 15 patents in the industry. Tony was proud of his Italian heritage. He was an involved, passionate supporter of both the Genesis House and the Olean Food Pantry and was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, having served as a Eucharistic minister. Music was always an important part of his life and he gave his support to the Friends of Good Music for many years. He also enjoyed traveling, reading and particularly, gardening. He is survived by his wife Carol; 3 children Stephen (Suzanne) Gallo of Virginia, Lisa (Alain) Douge of Maryland and Elizabeth Gallo of Olean; 5 grandsons Theo, Michael, Peter, Elliott and Simeo; 2 brothers Michael (Susan) Gallo of Schenectady and Sam (Millie) Gallo of Baton Rouge, LA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Louise Spataro. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3-5pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A prayer service will be held Thursday (January 21, 2021) at 9:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Rev. John Adams, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
