Barbara R. Salmonson Olean, NY Barbara R. Salmonson, formerly of 87 N. 4th St., Allegany, NY passed away Monday (July 4, 2022) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean with her loving family by her side. Born March 17, 1944 in Olean, she was the daughter of James M. and Helen Babcock Halleck. On January 11, 1969 at the United Methodist Church in Shinglehouse, PA she married Robert J. Salmonson who survives. Barbara was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. In her early years she worked as a nurse’s aide for the former Mountain Clinic in Olean, as a clerk at the former Loblaws store at Westons Shoppers City, and in the cafeteria at Allegany Central School. She also worked for the Allegany Nursing Home, and for Health Services at St. Bonaventure University. At the age of 50 she attained a medical secretary degree from Olean Business Institute. For the next 10 years she worked in the radiology department at Olean General Hospital until her retirement in 2004. Barbara was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany where she sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School for over 40 years and was its Christian Education director and well as being involved in the Youth Group and Vacation Bible School. For relaxation she enjoyed fishing, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She is survived by her loving husband Bob; 3 daughters Julie (Keith) Glover of Allegany, Beth (Danny) Fuller of Shinglehouse, PA and Kathy Salmonson of Allegany; 8 grandchildren Stephanie (Mitch Rozansky) Foster, Ashley Foster, Halley Glover, Heidi Estes, Thomas Estes, Gregory Estes, Samantha Glover, and Brandon Glover; 3 great grandchildren, Abbi Glover, Lola Glover and Amelia Thompson; a sister-in-law Sara Halleck of Olean and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother David Halleck. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday (July 12, 2022) from 1-3pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A memorial service will begin at 3pm in the funeral home. Rev. Derek Cheek, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
