William R. Hartle William R. Hartle, 70, of 66 Wright St., Bradford, formerly of Philipsburg and Towanda, died unexpectedly Wednesday (July 17, 2002) in his home. Born in Philipsburg on October 5, 1931, he was a son of the late James P. and Erda R. Maurer Hartle. On October 6, 1956 in Hawk Run, he married the former Anna Marie Tutokie, who survives. Mr. Hartle graduated from Philipsburg High School in 1949 and from the Franklin School of Science & Arts in Philadelphia in 1958 as a registered medical technologist. He had served in the Korean War as a sergeant with the U.S. Army's 73rd Battalion of the 7th Division. Mr. Hartle was a chief technician at Renovo Hospital from 1959 to 1969; was a laboratory technician from 1969 to 1972 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda; at MDS-Biozyme Labs in Olean, N.Y. from 1972 to 1979; at Oakleaf-Barnsdall in Olean from 1979 to 1983; and retired as a technical sales representative for Med-Chek Laboratories where he had worked from 1983 to June 1, 1997. Mr. Hartle was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Bradford, a member and board member of the Pennsylvania State Society of American Medical Technicians, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Philipsburg and the American Legion in Bradford. He had received the American Medical Technicians Distinguished Achievement Award, the Exceptional Merit Award, Pillar Award, and in June 2002 received the Becky Award. Mr. Hartle enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and candle making. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Betty A. (Jerry) Spindler of Bradford; three sons, Gregory C. Hartle of Fraser, Mich., Patrick V. Hartle of Bradford and Kenneth M. Hartle of Hinsdale, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Nichole Spindler and Andrea Spindler, both of Bradford; a grandson, Shawn Spindler of Bradford; a sister, Nancy Mihalko of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two infant sons, Jerome J. Hartle and Joseph F. Hartle. Friends may call today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Home Inc., 372 E. Main St., Bradford, where a Christian wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held Saturday (July 20, 2002) at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi church. Father Samuel B. Slocum will be celebrant. Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Philipsburg, with Father Gregory Kirsch, pastor of St. Agnes Church in Morrisdale, officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
