Obituary of Patrick A. Kayes

Olean- Patrick A. Kayes, of 321 N. 18th Street, passed away Wednesday (May 3, 2017) at the Olean General Hospital.

Born October 9, 1939 in Olean, he was the son of Patrick D. and Angeline Wallon Kayes. On February 23, 1991 in Olean, he married Nancy J. Hale, who survives.

Mr. Kayes was a 1957 graduate of Olean High School. He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps., from 1957-1960 and later worked for Cooper Power Systems in Olean.

Mr. Kayes was a member of many organizations including the Marine Corps Association, Olean American Legion Post 530, Olean Historical Society, Olean Alumni Association, St. Stephens Club, Pulaski Club, and the Fraternal Order Eagles Aerie #616. He was also a member of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Kayes enjoyed playing euchre and attending music in the park.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children Patrick T. (Joe Frankovich) Kayes of Ashville, NC, Brian D. (Maripat) Kayes of Dewittville, NY, Kelly (Bryan) Schwabenbauer of Olean; four grandchildren Brian, Corrine, Gunner, and Angeline; two brothers Joseph ( Nancy) Kayes, of Cincinnati, OH, Michael (Cheryl) Kayes of Broadalbin, NY; two step-sons Jeffrey (Robin) Wilson of Eldred, PA, Timothy (Kim) Wilson of Bradford, PA; and several nieces and nephews; and many step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister Carol Kuzak, and a step-son Paul Wilson.

Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Sunday (May 7, 2017) from 11:30-1pm at which time funeral services will begin. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor of St. Bonaventure Church will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. After the service, friends are welcomed to the St. Stephen's Club for a celebration of his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute Elm & Carlton Streets, Buffalo, NY 14263, Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 70, Daytona Beach FL 32115, or to the Disabled American Veterans 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Springs, KY 41076.
