Katherine A. Luderman Olean, NY Katherine A. Luderman, formerly of N. 14th St. passed away peacefully Wednesday (December 28, 2016). She had been residing at the home of her daughter Lisa in Albany in the recent past. Katherine, also known as Katie and Kay was born March 23, 1934 in Salamanca and was a daughter of Harry J. and Violetta Schnell Shoup. On August 13, 1960 in Falconer she married Donald E. "Dingo" Luderman who predeceased her December 10, 1994. Kay's family lived in Little Valley and Van Hornesville before settling in Jamestown. While at Falconer High School, she played and lettered in all sports before graduating with honors. While at Buffalo State Teachers College, where she prepared for her profession as a kindergarten teacher, she was president of the Early Childhood Education Club and played sports. She served as a kindergarten teacher for 30 years, mostly at Allegany Central School District, but also briefly at Starpoint, Franklinville and Portville Central School Districts. Kay had a competitive spirit and even into her eighties, enjoyed playing dominoes and water volleyball with her friends. She also loved shopping, gardening, cooking dining out and travel. Kay was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and Catholic Daughters of America as well as Delta Kappa Gamma. Kay was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joys in life were found in spending time with her family-whether in her backyard pool, at the beach, or gathered around the table to enjoy the delicious meals that she consistently prepared. Kay leaves behind her daughters and their husbands Linda and Joseph LaCoppola of Glenville, Lisa and Michael DiCarlo of Albany and Lori and Donald Jones of Olean; 4 grandchildren Jillian Jones, Amanda Jones, Emily LaCoppola and Joseph LaCoppola; 1 sister Margaret Fancher of Hamburg; 1 brother Charles (Karen) Shoup of Riverbank, CA; a sister-in-law Irene Shoup of Sun City, AZ and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 brothers Robert Shoup and Richard Shoup. Friends will be received for a memorial visitation on Friday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A memorial mass will be held Saturday (January 7, 2017) at 10:00am at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. David Tourville, associate pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St Mary of the Angels Church or the American Cancer Society.
