Judith Sherman Chiariello Franklinville, NY Judith Sherman Chiariello died at her home on Holland Road Sunday (July 5, 2015). Judy was born July 27, 1945 in Camden, NJ to Louis and Diana Husock Sherman. On August 18, 1968, she married the love of her life, Michael V. Chiariello who survives. Their daughter Emily was born on November 16, 1974. July received a BA in English Literature from Boston University, a Masters in Counseling from Northeastern University, and a Masters in Education with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from St. Bonaventure University. She taught High School English in Boston before moving to Cattaraugus County in 1970, when her husband joined the Philosophy Department at St. Bonaventure University. She served the youth of Cattaraugus County for close to 35 years, as teacher, counselor and administrator in Ellicottville, Randolph, Salamanca and Franklinville. In the 1980's she served as a social worker at the Randolph Children's Home. She also taught as an adjunct professor at Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University. Judy served on the Board of several organizations: Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau, Cattaraugus Community Action, Council on Addiction Recovery Services (CAReS) and Olean Community Theatre. She was a founding member of Wider Opportunities for Greater Olean. The Chiariellos directed the Franciscan Heritage semester study abroad program in Perugia, Italy for several years. Judy loved hosting and attending festive family events. Her hobbies included theater, reading, exercising, gardening and traveling. Along with her husband and daughter, Judy is survived by 2 sisters Lenore Traband of Woodbury, NJ and Rosalyn Lessing of Birmingham, MI, as well as seven nieces and nephews and a large, extended family. The family will be present to receive friends on July 17 (a week from Friday) from 5-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Friends are welcome to attend a remembrance ceremony that will be held July 18, 2015 (a week from Saturday) at 11:00am in the funeral home.
