David J. Elling
Allegany, NY David J. Elling of 2626 W. Five Mile Rd. passed away Sunday (October 8, 2017) at the Erie County Medical Center, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Born March 11, 1960 in Olean he was the son of the late James R. and Marion E. Klice Elling. On September 5, 1987 at the St. Bonaventure University Chapel he married Kim Besok who survives.
David was a 1979 graduate of Allegany Central School and had been employed in the construction business for many years. Most recently he was a supervisor of maintenance for Cattaraugus County.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, the Olean Rod and Gun Club and a social member of the Allegany American Legion. He had been an active member of the Allegany Engine Co. for over 20 years and had achieved life member status. He was currently serving on the Advisory Board for the department. He maintained membership in the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and camping. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley.
Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons Jeremy (Dawn Bennett) Elling of Olean and Timothy Elling of Allegany; 1 grandson Jack David Scott Elling; 3 sisters Debbie (John) Freeman of Cuba, Jeanne (Leonard) Campanella of Greenwood and Tina Elling-Smith of Allegany and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends will be received for a memorial visitation today (Wednesday) from 4-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday (October 12, 2017) at 10am at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. The Allegany Engine Co. will provide a color guard and honor guard at the church.
